How to pack, store in boxes and transport kitchen utensils when moving?

TWELVE TIPS ON HOW TO PACK AND SEND DELICATE OBJECTS.

move dishes and fragile items

In order to avoid stressful situations in a removal, it is highly recommended that for the transportation of things that are not used daily, they are prepared in advance, leaving only the items that will be used until the day of departure for the last moment. Therefore, usually the last one left unpacked, are kitchen utensils. That is to say - the most delicate objects to move, which require greater precautions to prevent them from breaking or deteriorating - those made of glass, porcelain or ceramic.

What you need for the packaging of the tableware.

If you are going to transport cookware, you have to be careful, especially with dishes. There are simple rules for packaging, for placing in boxes and for transportation.

Elements necessary for the packaging of plates, cups, fountains and other fragile containers will be:
- Small and medium cardboard boxes; - Bubble wrap;

- Granulated polystyrene foam;

- Corrugated or corrugated cardboard;

- Newspapers and napkins;

- Soft tissue; - Wide rolls of adhesive tape, cutter and marker.

Twelve recommendations to successfully transport your delicate objects:

1. The dishes weigh a lot and to facilitate the loading / unloading process without back injuries, it is better to use small and medium boxes. Make sure that they are made of a firm and resistant cardboard and that they are tightly closed;

2. First of all, the bottom of the boxes is reinforced by gluing the outside with adhesive tape. Then, at the bottom of each box you have to put a good base of cushioning material (a piece of thick cardboard, crumpled papers, balls of newspaper or magazines, etc.) to work as a mattress;

3. The fundamental thing is not to wrap two fragile items together, and, in general - that the fragile pieces do not touch each other, since being in contact can break each other. So, you should separate each object with bubble wrap or a sheet of plain paper, turning it several times and folding it well;

4. When putting them in the boxes, the big and heavy must go down, the small at the top. For example, if we pack glass cups and glasses in the same box, it is recommended after individually wrapping them, place the glasses first and then the fragile ones. Then the empty spaces are filled with crumpled paper or foam, to prevent the movement of the items during the move;

Visit of the moving evaluation. Budgeting.

5. If fragile objects are placed in several rows in a box (one on top of the other), the rows must be separated from each other with thick cardboard. For example, glass cups, cups and glasses are wrapped in paper and placed in separate cells made of cardboard strips. When you fill a row, cover it with corrugated cardboard and repeat the process;

6. In case of large and heavy plates, you cannot place them on the edge in several rows that go on top of each other. The correct thing is that the plates are stacked in small piles and placed in low boxes, alternating with paper dividers. If you do not have low boxes and if the plates are not very large, you can place them on the edge in two or maximum three rows, very well separated with thick cardboard. Don't forget to separate the plates from each other with paper or, even better - with bubble paper cut according to the sizes of the plates;

7. In case of vases, glasses, bottles and other stretched fragile items, it is advisable to have cupboards or boxes with dividers. However, you can use normal boxes, if you place these objects in a single row, separating them well with the bubble wrap and fixing them inside the box, filling the free holes, with some light but resistant material (paper, polyurethane foam, polystyrene;

8. You must take care with delicate objects, they do not have to touch the edges of the boxes directly, even if they are made of cardboard, because in the case of an occasional hit or fall of the box they could be damaged;

9. Pots and pans should be protected from splinters and scratches, wrapping them with cloth or paper. Empty gaps are to be filled with wrapped spoons, forks and other small non-fragile things. Metal utensils can be transported in bags as they are easier to wrap;

10. The boxes already packaged must be signed on the outside in a very visible way, to denote the fragility of the content with labels such as "Glass" or "Fragile" so that the person in charge of handling it has notice of it. In this way the “strategy” of the vehicle load will be determined, so that they are placed above the piles of the boxes and not crushed by other heavy boxes or objects of considerable weight during the trip;

11. Placing the cargo in the van or truck is essential to make moving fragile objects safely. Especially if the transfer of heavy boxes with dishes is organized in a van, it is very important to place the heavier boxes in the lower part of the load and, conversely - distribute the boxes of lower weight in the high area of the load.

It is also important to centre the load. Aligning heavy boxes with the vehicle axis, we provide stability to the van while driving.

All measures must be taken so that the load does not move in the vehicle during transport. Therefore, if the volume of the cargo, compared to the capacity of the vehicle's cargo area is remarkably small, it can immobilize the load using harnesses and other safety elements and fasteners.

If there is a lot of free space in the cargo part of the vehicle, we also recommend previously covering the entire pile of boxes with large moving blankets and then employing load securing measures such as lashing straps, load securing nets, ropes, etc. This way, we ensure that no box is released from its site in case of a sharp braking or sharp curve.

In any case, it must always be remembered that a box that is not well placed and tied, can act as a projectile. A bad cargo in the van, apart from being a very risky factor if you suffer an accident, is practically ensure that your cargo will suffer complete damage during your move;
